Ice Hockey

Through Four Generations and over 100 years of private ownership, Brant Lake Camp has always taken pride in being a place - "Where Sports Are Done Right"

For experienced and highly motivated Ice Hockey players who wish to maintain a feel for the ice and keep their skills up over the summer, Brant Lake Camp offers this special program. With the growing interest among many of our campers and their parents in ice hockey, we added this program a number of years ago, designed for those with a serious interest in the sport. It complements what we believe is a strong roller hockey program and consists of 4 – 5 workouts during the summer, each running 1 1/2 hours at a facility within a short drive from camp.

Our Ice Hockey program is run by Dave Cramoy, one of our Directors, who has over 20 years coaching experience at every level from mini-Mites through Midgets and High School. He has also coached a number of years at the National Sports Academy in Lake Placid and holds his Advanced Coaching Certification from USA Hockey.

Our sessions are all non-check and mostly involve boys ages 9-15, although we have accepted some very capable younger players in this group. We start with a number of full-ice warm up drills followed by some varied small-ice competitive drills including  2 v 1, 2 v 2, 3 v 3– emphasizing quick puck movement, skating and shooting. We also do some power skating and other hockey oriented “games”. The bulk of the time however, is devoted to full ice, 5 v 5 scrimmages with equal shift times for all and matched lines. Our program is not chocked full of repetitive skating and conditioning drills but is oriented to having fun and playing the game.

Please be aware, however, that this is not a learn-to-skate or beginner activity– with the skill level generally strong as most of our participants play on some kind of travel or house league hockey team– and are competent to highly accomplished players.

Full equipment is required, including hockey skates, helmet with a full cage, gloves, shin and elbow guards, neck guard, protective cup, hockey pants and stick. (For your information, much of the same equipment may be utilized for roller hockey.) There is a supplemental fee for Ice Hockey which covers the cost of the ice. If you have any questions or would like more information about our Ice Hockey program, please don’t hesitate to contact Dave Cramoy directly.
