Senior Camp
swoosh
We are very proud that Brant Lake, more than most camps, has an exceptionally high rate of returning campers. Most telling is the fact that this continues right through the oldest group in camp-- our Seniors. At a time when many kids in this age group are interested in such options such as teen tours, specialty camps, overseas programs, etc., boys seem eager to return to BLC. On average, we have about 40-50 boys in our oldest Senior group plus 15-20 partial summer CIT’s which, by all standards for camps such as ours, is a significant number at this age.

Senior Camp

Why do so many boys return to our Senior Camp? Because we work very hard at creating a special environment for our older boys, which includes keeping a number of traditional BLC activities and providing much of what some may be looking for outside the traditional camp experience. This includes increased program choices, more social and great entertainment opportunities, interesting travel/trips and new activities and privileges. Throughout their time at BLC, kids have always looked forward to the summer when they get to the Senior Camp.

From the later wake-up times, to offering Majors and Minors (some boys play golf on courses 20 times per summer, some none), to the many trip days and multiple day trips, to having a Video/Film program and a CD burning program, to going to Rock Concerts or to Movies at least once per week and watching Sports Center in the dining room at breakfast. All these factors contribute to the feeling that our Senior Camp is a dynamic and “cool” place to be. Most importantly, we have the mature, Key Staff to make sure that all activities are safe, and fun!

The following are some of the program highlights and key differences:

  • Seniors Typical DayLater wake-up and later bed times
  • Major and Minor sports offerings (if they wish) which guarantees them individualized instructional sessions and extra game opportunities. Choices include: baseball, basketball, tennis, soccer, water-skiing, and golf.
  • Longer Selectivity/game periods
  • Additional hobby choices including weight training, video/film, CD burning, cross country running, lacrosse, volleyball, mountain biking and others
  • Specialty golf and tennis provide another opportunity to get individualized instruction and play.
  • Leagues continue but boys are given the choice to participate in only those sports they enjoy. In lieu of leagues for those sports, individual sports instruction is provided.
  • Inter-camp games continue as with our Inter Division but tournaments with other camps are more prevalent. A tournament team is selected based on talent and commitment and they practice often prior to an upcoming tournament.
  • Varsity practices for tournament bound teams
  • Specialty days offered where boys can opt to participate in a chosen sport for 5 hours during that day
  • Green and Gray includes Senior featured games with the whole camp watching
  • Two “luxury”, multi-day trips offered during special trip weeks. Destinations include: Sr. A’s- Cooperstown and Burlington or Mt. Snow for mountain biking
  • Sr. B’s- Toronto and Boston
  • Sr. C’s- Vermont and Montreal
  • Extensive evening activities program including concerts at SPAC, weekly night out to the movies, weekly socials with Point O’ Pines, fun group games, mini golf outings, regular socials with the Dance Camp
  • Special Sunday brunches follow a late Sunday morning wake up (10:00 AM). Leagues, a co-ed afternoon with a barbeque and evening movies in Chestertown complete a more relaxed schedule
  • A late night period from about 8:30-10:00 PM devoted to a variety of activities including DVD movies in the Senior Clubhouse, soccer, lacrosse , volleyball on our new artificial turf lit field, basketball, tennis or dunk ball under the lights, burning CD’s and video/movie editing, etc.
  • Late night food and snacks are offered most evenings from 9- 10:00 PM in the Senior dining room. They include pizza, soup, sandwiches, pasta, cereal, grilled cheese, popcorn, etc. Afternoon snacks are also available daily.
