Green & Gray
BLC’s most special event when all regular activity is suspended for several days and the camp divides into two teams to participate in what we call “the highest form competition involving the utmost form of respect for the opponent”. (See our special section on Green & Gray for more on this event.)
Olympics
This fun and special form of competition occurs on many Sunday afternoons for our Junior and Intermediate Camps. (The Senior Camp has co-ed activities on Sunday instead). Six teams are created representing different countries from around the world and boys are assigned to best balance each team. Boys wear their country’s colors, and march in with Olympic music playing and participate in ball games and other events while also cheering on teammates of a variety of ages. Special cheers are also created by each team.
5 Year Party
A special dinner and fun ceremony is held in our downstairs dining room for all campers who have attended Brant Lake Camp for 5 or more years. A 5-year gift is given to all who attend recognizing their loyalty and contributions to BLC.
“Lazy” Morning
The morning following the end of Green & Gray, everyone takes a well deserved rest and those who want to can sleep in. We host a very special outdoor brunch, serving the “best” of everything and including our infamous Omelet bar, blintzes, all types of fancy doughnuts, Belgian waffles, home fries and more. It’s a great way for the camp to come together again and begin getting back to normal.
Song Contest
This special event is surprisingly one of the camp’s favorite evenings. Each group performs a number of BLC original songs plus a cheer in our Clubhouse, with the entire camp in attendance, in its quest to take home the victory. It follows many hard rehearsals and the resulting spirit and tradition of this great event is not only moving but very exciting for all.
Campfires
Throughout the summer, we feel it is important for boys to enjoy the experience of sitting out under the stars at a campfire hearingstories, exchanging experiences and enjoying S’mores and roasted marshmallows. It’s always a hit and an unforgettable experience, particularly for our Junior Campers.
Banquet & Awards Night
On the last night of camp, we celebrate the summer with a very special dinner banquet for each of our three camps. We then all get together to enjoy some of the summer’s musical highlights from past shows and the Song Contest, performed by campers before starting our awards ceremony. Each Area Head recaps the highlights of the summer for his group and recognizes those campers who have earned “Citizenship Awards”. Special awards are also given for loyalty and service to Brant Lake Camp, theatrical arts, Counselor of the Year and Camper of the Year which is given to one of older boys who exemplifies character, integrity and leadership—among some others. In separate meetings, BLC Camp Plaques are also given to each boy which includes medallions for participation in activities that he is most proud of and interested in.
